The Best Of Me

James Marsden, Michelle Monaghan and cast talk about what it’s like to be in a Nicholas Sparks love story.

Based on the bestselling novel by acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks, The Best of Me tells the story of Dawson (James Marsden) and Amanda (Michelle Monaghan, two former high school sweethearts who find themselves reunited after 20 years apart, when they return to their small town for the funeral of a beloved friend.

Their bittersweet reunion reignites the love they’ve never forgotten, but soon they discover the forces that drove them apart twenty years ago live on, posing even more serious threats today. It’s another one of Nicholas Sparks’ love story of the ages that so many fans love, and guaranteed to pull on your heartstrings.

For Marsden, who plays the adult version of Dawson, the chance to again enter the Sparks world of love and passion was a great opportunity he didn’t want to pass up.

“I had the good fortune to be part of a Nicholas Sparks movie in the past which was a great experience. I responded to Dawson and his story and I’ve loved Michelle’s work for a long time,” Marsden says about signing on and working with his costar. “She is one of those rare actresses with beauty AND depth. It’s easy to sell the romance because you immediately fall in love with her. Plus, she was fun to work with, we have a similar approach. She keeps it loose and fun, on and off camera. What the movie does – and what a Nick Sparks movie does so well – is allow you to escape into the world of what if? We get caught up in our everyday lives and, like Amanda, can lose sight of your soul, your heart. His books and movies remind you of what it’s like to feel for someone, to be hurt, to lose someone, all those essential human elements. He taps into that in such a beautiful, intelligent way that rings bells with his fans.”
In this video featurette, the cast talks about their characters and what it was like to playing out this epic love story.
