Eve Mendes talks about her dramatic role in The Place Beyond The Pines and how she got a big tip while being a real waitress during her research.

In The Place Beyond the Pines, Eva Mendes plays a single mom, Romina, who’s life gets interrupted when her old boyfriend, Luke, played by her real-life boyfriend Ryan Gosling, rides back into town wanting his old life back. The problem is, he’s a bad boy and not fit to be her baby daddy.

Luke is a high-wire motorcycle stunt performer in a carnival, and  resolves to forsake life on the road in order to provide for his newfound family, taking a job as car mechanic with Robin (Ben Mendelsohn). But Robin soon discovers Luke’s special talents, and proposes to partner with him in a string of spectacular bank robberies. But it is only a matter of time before Luke will run up against the law — which comes in the form of Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper).

In this video interview, Mendes talks about her character, why women choose bad boys, her experience working as a waitress in a diner and her theory on director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine).

The Place Beyond the Pines opens April 12 and stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Mahershala Ali, Dane DeHaan, Emory Cohen, Ben Mendelsohn.
