MUSICIAN DAVE MATTHEWS & WINEMAKER SEAN MCKENZIE DONATE TREES IN CANADA WITH “THE DREAMING TREE WINES”
Dave Matthews and winemaker Sean McKenzie’s wine The Dreaming Tree donates first tree grove in Canada with Tree Canada.
Dave Matthews and his band sure know how to rock it out. But what most people may not know is that the musician is doing some good with another venture: The Dreaming Tree Wines.
Along with seasoned winemaker Sean McKenzie, the pair decided to create their own wine after bonding over their shared passion of quality wine and winemaking. To make their partnership even more meaningful the pair decided to give back. With every bottle of The Dreaming Tree wine purchased, proceeds go towards planting trees in communities.
Partnering with Tree Canada - a not-for-profit charitable organization established to encourage Canadians to plant and care for trees - McKenzie and Matthews unveiled their latest tree planting contributions in Canada by planting a tree grove within Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto.
Before his concert with the Dave Matthews Band in Toronto on July 21, McKenzie, along with Councilor Mike Layton (Ward 19 Trinity Spadina) and Richard Walker, director of communications for Tree Canada, presented a dedicated plaque and twenty-nine freshly planted trees.
“We know we have to replace 88 trees that we’ll lose to the emerald ash borer in this park alone,” said councillor Layton. “The addition of 29 new trees will certainly help.”
Matthews and McKenzie began their wine venture in 2011 creating five different kinds of wines using grapes from different regions of California to create the amazing Merlot style “Crush” (their best seller), as well as a Chardonnay, a Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and an Everyday White Wine. McKenzie said their wines are all created to go easy on the palate and enjoyed with all food.
“This is something I feel good about inviting someone over to share with me,” Matthews says about the wine. “It’s something to be proud of.”
Proceeds of every bottle of The Dreaming Tree wine sold in Canada is donated to Tree Canada. In Ontario, The Dreaming Tree Crush red wine and Chardonnay is available at the LCBO.
