Feature: Elle Macpherson’s secret to health & beauty wellness

If you’ve grown up in the era of the true supermodel age (think Macpherson, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christie Turlington and Kate Moss) you’re no stranger to Elle Macpherson’s nickname, “The Body.”

Now in her glorious 50’s, the Australian model and entrepreneur looks better than ever. Is it just good genes, exercise or a few sips a day from the fountain of youth? Whatever it is, we want in.

Macpherson has always maintained an active exercise routine. In a recent interview, she states that she trains five times per week, mostly outdoors, with activities that include paddle boarding, snorkeling, running, rock climbing, swimming, yoga, and boxing. She advises to pick a few activities you love and make a routine of it.

So what about her diet?

All experts agree. When it comes to maintaining weight control 80 percent of it is your diet and 20 percent is exercise. For Macpherson, she wanted to take things a step further by creating WelleCO, a line of health supplements, including protein powders and greens, that would ensure healthy nutrition but also keep your body alkaline.

“I’m vegan at the moment and follow an alkaline diet of organic, seasonal whole foods,” Elle Macpherson told Goop. “Because different greens provide different benefits, I eat a wide variety.

If you eat too a lot of processed food, sugar, caffeine, meat, and alcohol it can leave you with an acidic gut – the cause of inflammation, weight gain, susceptibility to illness, fatigue, headaches, insomnia and bloating,” she says on Instagram. My nutritional Doctor Dr. Laubscher explains our healthy bodies were designed to function in an alkaline state. Many big and small health issues are associated with an acidic body - low energy, weight gain, craving carbs and sugar may all mean you’re acidic.”

She also says she starts her mornings with a glass of water with apple cider vinegar.

Macpherson’s secret weapon: The Super Elixir

With her line of products (with her cofounder nutritionist, Simone Laubscher) including the popular The Super Elixir Nourishing Protein and Super Elixir Alkalising Greens, Macpherson keeps her body nourished and in a healthy state. Her go-to drink is a mix of the two that includes: banana, nectarine, 1 scoop of Super Elixir Vanilla Protein, two teaspoons of Super Elixir Alkalising Greens, spinach and almond milk.

Another important aspect of her nutrition is drinking three liters of water per day to ensure the body’s hydration levels, healthy skin, hair as well as eliminating toxins.
