What is this telephone cord-like hair ring that’s causing major buzz? It’s called Invisibobble, the latest hair accessory that’s trending all over the world. Read why it’s being touted as one of the best—and healthiest— hair ties around…
So, what exactly are these little coiled ring cords? They’re called invisibobble and they were created by two German University students, one being Sophie Trelles-Tvede.
I met Trelles-Tvede while in Toronto for a press tour of the product. As a passionate, twenty-something confident young entrepreneur, you couldn’t help but feel inspired by her drive and vision, especially when she shared how this unique idea for this new type of hair tie came to light.
While getting ready for a “bad taste” themed party one evening, Trelles-Tvede went all out wearing a tie-dye synthetic blouse, sparkling bell-bottoms, multi-coloured eye-shadow and a bunch of crazy accessories. On her way out, she realized her hair needed something extra. She then set her eye on an old telephone hanging on her dorm wall, which had been out of order for years. She decided to unplug the phone cord and use it to tie up her hair.
The next morning Trelles-Tvede discovered that “she didn’t have a regular headache she experienced with elastic hair ties and was shocked to see that her makeshift telephone cord hair tie did not leave kicks or bends in the hair.” That’s when she knew she might have an idea on her hands. And, with the help of investors, invisibobble was born.
Composed of artificial resin, the invisibobble hair ring is made of up coils that grab and hold on to hair in a light way, without tugging at the roots. Because of the material, they prevent bacteria and other small substances from entering and are hypoallergenic.
What’s great about the Invisibobble hair rings is that they come in different sizes. Whether you have thin hair, thick hair, or just want small ties for small pony tails or to secure braid ends (I always need those!) there is a size for your styling need.
When put to a vigorous test (I wear my hair up most days) I have found these ties to have great grip and hold while being light as air. Normally, when I use an elastic tie and pull it out, so much hair is ripped out. With the Invisibobble ring, hardly any hair is pulled. It also didn’t leave a harsh bend, which always happens with a tight elastic. It also holds its shape for quite a while. However, if you find it stretching too much, you may need a stronger ring.
But here’s a tip: if your band starts to lose shape, pour hot water over it, give it a couple of squeezes and it will retract back in size.
Also, because it’s coiled you can style your hair in many different ways including buns and messy updos. I personally love that it adds a lift and bounce to my pony tail than my regular elastic.

I’m excited about this one. The band has a the invisibobble resin ring at the bottom and fine silicon grip on the inside of the hairband allowing it to stay in place during exercise giving it an anti-slip effect.
