Want a fuller pout? From makeup tips to lip treatments to fillers, here are some ways you can get sexy, plump lips.
Full lips have always been in style. But if there was ever a time when they topped the beauty list it’s now, when celebrities are unabashedly flaunting their plump lips like Kylie Jenner (who does overfill hers to an unnatural level, btw).
Although many of us want to enhance our lips without the help of injections or fillers because of fear of needles or cost (see my first-time experience with lip filler below), there are other ways you can get plump lips.
Here are some options to get the look of fuller lips:
1. Hydrate
This may seem like a no-brainer, but many people neglect their lips. There is so much emphasis on moisturizing face and eyes and body that our pouts don’t get the treatment they need especially in the colder temps. Keep them hydrated with a natural lip balm during the day and even better, use one at night. When you wake up your lips will have increased in volume naturally.
2. Exfoliate
Exfoliation is the key to revealing smooth lips. This is extremely important during the winter months when lips are dry and chapped. The harsh cold causes lips to tighten and reduce in size and get all wrinkly. Exfoliating dead lip skin cells will make your lips look healthier and ready for a smooth lipstick application. Exfoliation will also you’re your lips a flush in colour gives your lips a beautiful flush and naturally fuller appearance.
3. Lip Plumper
Lip Plumpers have come a long way since their introduction in the beauty market in the ‘90s. They have ingredients in them that slightly irritate lips making them plump up and hydrate. If you have thin lips or want to help your lips look plumper temporarily, a lip plumper is your best friend.
4. Lip Plumping Device
How about using a lip device? This is more of an investment but it works. JuvaLips is a small device that uses regulated pressure to boost blood flow into the capillaries of your lips, giving you dramatic results in one to two minutes. It also minimizes the fine lines around the lips as well.
5. Contour Makeup
There are three makeup tips you can do in order to make your lips look more defined and fuller. They include, slightly over lining lips with pencil, using concealer around the lines of lips and using an Ombre lip colour. Lining lips will give them a more defined look and by using an Ombre lip colour you can get 3D definition that makes lips plumper!
6. Lip Filler
If you’re serious about getting a semi-permanent lip boost, then look into fillers. Yes, this involves getting a needle injection. But, although celebrities who abuse this method can turn you off and scare you, know that it can be a great way to get healthy-looking lips if done right. You don’t have to look “cartoonish.” That means do not use a Groupon sale! You must go to a reputable place that specializes in these types of procedures.
My first lip injection filler was at SpaMedica, a medical spa in Toronto, whom I trust. I wanted to fix a crooked upper lip and make my lips look slightly plumper. (See my before and after below.) In this first-time session, only one syringe of Juvaderm was used. Yes, that needle hurt when injected! However, because it only takes seconds per side, it was worth that first painful pinch. These results typically last about three months and can be costly, however. But they give the best results for achieving fuller lips.
