Cara Delevingne talks about famed director Luc Besson’s space thriller Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and what it was like getting the part.
Cara Delevingne’s journey from the top modelling world to Hollywood is certainly something that is getting noticed from both sides of the these worlds. From her breakout role in the drama Paper Towns to her action turn in Suicide Squad, Delevingne proves she’s pursuing her first love of acting in full force.
When she found out that Besson wanted to meet with her to talk about a “secret movie” project she jumped at the chance.
“I didn’t know we were meeting about this movie.” she told V Magazine. “Even my agents didn’t know it was for this, and it was clear this was a top-secret project. I was just told, ‘Luc wants to have brunch,’ and I said, ‘Great, let’s do it.’ But when we met, he explained it all with such enthusiasm that it was clear he’d been trying to do this for so long and it was a passion project.”
Turns out it was Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, a story that has legions of fans from the series of French sci-fi comics.
In the movie, taking place in the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan from The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Laureline (Delevingne) comprise a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories.
Under assignment from the Minister of Defense the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha, a metropolis where species from all over the universe.
There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force that threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets. Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets opens in theatres on July 21.
