With The Body Shop’s new expert masks, you can customize your facial according to your skin’s needs.
The new expert face masks from The Body Shop are simply divine.
The brand, known for its environmental responsibility, is launching five vegetarian and vegan masks inspired by super foods from around the world. The formulas in the five masks are all targeted to tackle specific concerns including dry, dull and oily skin.
There’s even a specially designed brush to help make application a breeze. Having tried all of the masks my verdict is in: these masks are a must for your beauty routine.
What’s more exciting is that you can mix and match your masks by applying a different one to a specific area to maximize your skin glow. It’s called “multi-masking,” (see examples in gallery below) when two or more masks are positioned in different places to give each section of your skin the attention it needs.
Here are the five formulas:
One of my personal favourites! Inspired by Ayurvedic traditions, this tingling mud mask contains powerful ingredients including Bamboo charcoal from the Himalayan foothills, known to draw out impurities and excess oils from the skin and Green tea leaves from Japan, which are rich in antioxidants and catechins and effectively exfoliate the skin.
“While it’s among the newest superfoods, charcoal has long been known for its purifying properties. Charcoal attaches itself to toxins, absorbing them before the stomach can absorb them into the bloodstream. This is the same mechanism that powers Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Masks purifying activity on skin,” says Jennifer Hirsch, Beauty Botanist for The Body Shop.
Inspired by African healing and soothing rituals, this melting honey mask blends the finest natural ingredients including marula and olive oils.
“We know honey as a superfuel as well as being a superfood. Not only is it antioxidant-rich and naturally antibacterial, honey is also a fantastic humectant, attracting all-important water to the skins surface. The decadent texture of this mask is created by blending Community Trade Namibian marula and Italian olive oils with Community Trade honey. The result is a rich gold liquid with soothing and moisturizing properties to intensively replenish skin,” says Hirsch.
Inspired by the European bathing rituals, this refreshing gel mask is infused with real natural ingredients: Real rose petals, and essence of hand‐picked roses from Britain, freshly replenishes the skins water reserves, Rosehip oil from Chile, rich in repairing Omega 3 and 6 that helps tone skin and Community Trade organic aloe vera from Mexico, known for its gentle, calming and soothing properties on skin.
“Using the mask brush, apply this homemade looking formula on cleansed skin. You can keep it on for a couple of minutes or as long as you like, your skin will feel quenched with moisture, leaving you dewy and super smooth! This mask is every bit as good as it smells, so warm it up in your hands to release that beautiful British Rose scent – I love it!,” recommends Vanda Serrador, The Body Shop Expert Facialist.
Warning, this mask looks and smells like jam. Do not eat! Inspired by the rituals of Amazonian tribes, this fresh mask with powerful natural ingredients includes Acai berry extract from Brazil, rich in anti‐oxidants and vitamin C that fight the appearance of fatigue, Guarana seed extract from Brazil, known for its energy boosting properties from its high concentration of caffeine and Community Trade organic babassu oil from Brazil, an effective nut oil known to soften, smooth and revitalize the skin.
“Used in the Amazonian pharmacopoeia to traditionally care for skin conditions, acai is rich in some of the same polyphenols that makes green tea such a potent antioxidant. Brazilian guarana is well known for its energizing properties, potentially a result of its caffeine content… known for its skin- toning benefits. Marry that with Community Trade organic babassu oil that helps to support the lipid layer defence, and this moisturizing mask supercharges your skin,” says Hirsch.
Inspired by Chinese traditions, this creamy exfoliating mask combines natural ingredients sourced from Northeast Asia and South America.
Ginseng extract from China, known for its skin toning and stimulating properties help revitalize skin, Rice extract from China, traditionally used to moisturize and brighten the skin and Community Trade organic sesame seed oil from Nicaragua, rich in oleic and linoleic acid to soften the skin.
“Dull skin? The struggle is so real. But this creamy yet stimulating mask will give you brighter, radiant skin in minutes. I recommend you apply this mask warm, which will work better with your skin giving you a clarified, and unified complexion,” says Serrador.
