Forget contouring or strobing. If you want to put your best face forward and achieve glowing and even skin tone, colour correction is the way to go. Here are some tips and products to get you started.

We all want to put our best face forward and although we try to achieve healthy looking skin with diet and skin-nourishing products, sometimes we need a touch of makeup to help us along.

For those who have different skin concerns like uneven skin tone, redness or dark circles, foundations and concealers don’t always do the job alone. I can attest to this. I personally find it hard to find a concealer that masks dark circles perfectly. Whether it’s called “industrial strength,” or “heavy duty,” something is always a bit off.

In the beauty world we’ve realized that in order to achieve great looking skin, it’s important to have a good base. And just as much as the health of your skin is important, in order to achieve a flawless looking, barely-there makeup look, you to need to start with a primed palette (your face, that is).

But don’t fear because colour correction is here! This latest trend is a good one, and something we can do on our own without having a degree in makeup artistry. You simply need to identify your concerns and pick a colour that will neutralize it.

Do you have dark circles, redness, uneven skin tone and dull skin?

Dark Circles & Dark Spots
From light to dark skin, dark circles can make you look tired and sickly. By adding a colour tint of pink (light skin), orange (medium skin) or red (dark skin) under the eyes before you conceal will give your concealer that added edge in hiding the dark purple darkness.

Try: Cover FX Correct Click in Peach, Orange and Brick.

Having redness due to mild irritation or rosacea is usually common with individuals with light to medium skin tones. In order to cancel out the red, you need to apply a green concealer. You can also go with yellow corrector if your redness is mild.

Try: Marc Jacobs Beauty Cover Stick Color Corrector, Lancôme Miracle CC Cushion - Color Correcting Primer.

Dull Skin
If you have dull and lacklustre skin and need an instant glow try applying a shade of purple to your skin before your foundation. The colour purple neutralizes yellow and adds brightness to the skin.

Try: Clinique Superprimer colour corrects sallowness, Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid, Smashbox Color Correcting Stick.
