CHARLIZE THERON DISHES ON SHAVING HER HEAD & BEING A BADASS IN “MAD MAX: FURY ROAD”
Charlize Theron talks about kicking butt and getting down and dirty in the post-apocalyptic action film Mad Max: Fury Road.
We all know that Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron will do whatever it takes to get into character. Whether it’s gaining weight, or buzzing off her soft golden locks, Theron is fearless when it comes to changing her appearance. It was this quality that won her the coveted role as the warrior Imperator Furiosa in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, also starring Tom Hardy as the titular character, Max Rockatansky.
Following in the same vain as Miller’s previous films starring Mel Gibson (the fourth in the series), is set in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken and women are slaves. The restoration of hope and freedom rests on the shoulders of two rebels who ban together to overthrow an evil ruler; Max, a man of action and of few words, and Furiosa, a woman of action who is looking to make it back to her childhood homeland. And, in order to fight with the big boys, it was important for Theron to look the part.
“I wanted to look like I had tremendous upper-body strength because there was so much physicality in the movie, especially with someone like Tom Hardy,” she said. “And I just hate that idea of scrawny little girls fighting men off and then winning so I did a lot of upper-body yoga to get my shoulders and neck strong. I look like a football player in this movie.”
Mad Max: Fury Road opens May 15 and stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Rosey Huntington-Whitely and Riley Keough.
