BUTTER IN YOUR COFFEE? THE BULLETPROOF WAY TO BRAIN POWER
Do you want to reach your ultimate level of brainpower? According to Dave Asprey, owner of Bulletproof Coffee, putting butter in your coffee is the key.
That cup of Joe you drink every morning has become a ritual shared by millions and millions of people around the world. Many coffee drinkers consume the beverage to kick start their day or to give them an extra boost of energy mid-afternoon to beat the 3 p.m. slump. But what if you could take that extra step and use it to stimulate brainpower? Is it really possible to turn your average cup of coffee into the ultimate brain booster?
Dave Asprey, creator of Bullletproof coffee, thinks so. After a trip to Tibet and drinking his first cup of yak butter tea, Dave Asprey had a revelation: merge butter with coffee.
“I learned about the power of butter at 18,000 feet of elevation near Mt. Kailash in Tibet,” explains Aspery on his website. “I staggered into a guest house from the -10 degree weather and was literally rejuvenated by a creamy cup of yak butter tea. After a couple years of careful research, that was the genesis of the recipe below, which is today, used by Billboard recording artists before they go on stage, world champion athletes, and some of the world’s top executives, because it has a massive impact on cognitive function.”
This ultimately led Asprey to concoct what he says is the perfect drink. His Bulletproof coffee, which he carefully sources, is mixed with grass-fed butter and MTC-oil (an extract of coconut oil) to create a frothy, frappe-like coffee beverage without using dairy or sugar. It comes in at an average of 460-calories. But before you gasp, it’s consumed as breakfast meal replacement. Asprey says the drink removes cravings, promotes weight loss by triggering ketosis, and increases “a massive impact on cognitive function.” He says that drinking the coffee and other health snacks has helped boost his IQ by more than 20 points.
For some people who aren’t coffee drinkers, Asprey says it’s because many haven’t consumed a high-quality one. “The wrong coffee will sap your energy and leave you feeling lethargic and irritable,” he says. “This is the main reason people believe they don’t tolerate coffee. It’s not coffee they don’t tolerate, it’s the mycotoxins in the coffee. Not all coffee is created equal. The wrong coffee will sap your energy and leave you feeling lethargic and irritable.”
Even actress Shailene Woodley is a fan. The Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars actress tweeted: “I’m convinced that bulletproof coffee may very well be one of the greatest of human achievements.”
How to Make Dave Asprey’s Bulletproof Coffee
Brew 1 cup (8 oz.) of coffee using filtered water, just off the boil, with 2 ½
heaping tablespoons freshly ground Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee Beans
Add in 1-2 tablespoons Bullet Proof Upgraded Brain Octane to the hot
coffee (It’s STRONG – start with 1 tsp. and work up over several days).
Add 1-2 tablespoons grass-fed, unsalted butter or ghee. Mix it all in a
blender for 20-30 seconds until it is frothy like a foamy latte.
