When it comes to shopping for athletic swimwear (or any swimwear for that matter), finding the perfect suit that provides the right coverage and support for your individual body type can be a daunting task. To answer this need, Nayad—founded by Kate Fox and Jennie Green—created a unique company that offers custom made-to-order, multipurpose aqua sportswear that’s ideal for any activity, in or out of the water.

Merging athletic and dancewear construction with fashionable designs and quick-drying spandex, Nayad’s aqua sportswear is constructed specifically for a woman’s moving body. According to Kate Fox, the idea of this aqua swimwear came out of a need to create the most comfortable suit that allows for any range of indoor or outdoor activity but also one that looked fashionable.

“A lot of woman don’t really fit into the small, medium and large molds,” says Fox. “Most of the time women go to the store and have to buy two different sizes of suits to fit their bodies. There is also a hesitation with women to buy swimwear online because they feel it might not fit or feel nervous about how they look. [With Nayad], buying online is easy because it’s customized, so you know it will fit you. Also, our product is athletic wear so you can wear it comfortably, work towards your fitness goals and look great in it.”

The suits are perfect for any physical activity including running, walking, swimming, surfing, sailing, beach volleyball, yoga, pilates, stand-up paddle boarding, zumba, triathalons, tennis, cycling, wind surfing, kite boarding, weight lifting, kayaking, and more.

Fox says the swimwear is made from a high-quality, four-way stretch blend of nylon spandex, which makes them durable and flexible. But what makes Nayad unique is that the suits are customized to your personal measurements, aesthetic and style preferences. From the Aqua Sports Bra, Aqua Fitness Tops, Aqua Bottoms and Leggings, Aqua Shorts, and Aqua Skirts—you can choose what style is best for your activity or body shape.

Using the digital visualizer tool on NayadSwimGym.com website, you can be your own designer by playing with various styles, colours and patterns to create the look of your suit. “There are places that will offer custom made-to-measure items, but with Nayad you can do it on the site and be the architect of your look,” says Kate. “With the online visualizer tool, it makes creating your suit fun.”

How does it work?

When you have decided on a style, and measured your body (they have a guide on the site to help you measure the proper areas) you simply input your measurements and style choices when you are ordering and the suit is then made by hand—in St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands)—according to your measurements.

After I took my measurements, I had fun with the visualizer tool to design the look. Below is the suit I chose.

The cost of the suit ranges from $54 to $74 per piece (top and bottoms are sold separately). Before you think that buying a suit for an average of $120 and up is too expensive, remember that it is customized to your body and designed by you!

After I ordered, the product was shipped out to me about two weeks later. Considering that the suit was custom made, it came rather quickly. The suit is comfortable and is extremely flexible during workouts.

So, if you’re finding that you can’t find the right fit of aqua sportswear or want a swimsuit that is supportive and forgiving, this bespoke style of swimwear is your best bet!
