MTV MOVIE AWARDS 2014: THE WINNERS AND HIGHLIGHTS!
As one of the most fun awards shows of the year, the MTV Movie Awards honours your favourite stars in the coolest categories. See who took top honours and who took their shirt off!
What other awards show honours Best Kiss, Best Shirtless Perfomance or Best #WTF moment? The MTV Awards of course, where the stars come to play, party and dress up in their coolest duds.
Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the awards show kicked off with Jared Leto winning biggest on-screen transformation for Dallas Buyers Club, with no surprise, which he also won a Golden Globe and an Oscar earlier this year.
Leto’s acceptance speech proved that this award show is just as meaningful as the more “serious” ones that take place during awards season. “The Academy is really prestigious but this is unique because everybody has the right to vote and you get people from all over the world that chime in and say whatever you want to say so it means a lot,” Leto backstage of his win. “It’s nice to be able to get up on stage and to thank people directly
Other big wins included The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The movie walked away with the most awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles, including the coveted Movie Of The Year prize, Best Female Performance for Jennifer Lawrence and Best Male Performance for Josh Hutcherson who dedicated his award to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
“I know that if Philip were here, he would really think this is really cool,” Hutcherson said during his acceptance speech. “To have him in our movies was one of the coolest things in the world. He’s one of the actors I’ve looked up to my entire life. We think about him every day on set. Wherever he is, this definitely goes out to him as well.”
During the night, several cast members also led tributes to fallen co-stars Paul Walker and Philip Seymour Hoffman, whose lives were tragically cut short. Other top highlights included smashing performances by Rihanna and Eminem and Ellie Goulding and Zedd as well as Zac Efron getting his shirt ripped of by Rita Ora in honour of his win for Best Shirtless Performance. Of course, it wouldn’t be a top movie awards show without a special sneak peek into a much-anticipated movie. Fans roared after a new clip from
X-Men: Days of Future Past was shown to great applause. Oh, and we can’t forget internet sensation, Grumpy Cat, who made an appearance wearing a mini replica of Pharrell’s famous hat!
