Here, Christina Hendricks shares her thoughts on Joan and what she’s done to survive a world dominated by men.
When we last left our friends on Mad Men, Don Draper’s life was in shambles and life at the agency was less than stellar. But for the women, mostly Peggy and Joan, seemed to be handling things quite nicely.
Throughout the seasons of Mad Men, Joan Harris has gone from office manager ordering around the young female staff to agency partner in what seems as a blink of an eye. But no matter how she got where she is Hendricks says Joan is a strong and powerful woman whose learned that the stereotypical lifestyle (meaning getting the perfect husband) doesn’t always ensure happiness.
Reflecting on Joan’s evolution since season 1, Hendricks admits Joan has learned some lessons. “She’s a career woman but would ultimately like to find the man of her dreams, move to the suburbs and be a wife,” Hendricks says. “And through those seasons we see her pursue those things and find that they weren’t what they cracked up to be.”
