With its seventh and final season about to premiere, actress and star of Mad Men, January Jones, talks about how Betty Draper/Francis has evolved over the seasons and how she may never be “pleasant” again.
She’s has been the quintessential housewife and homemaker, but that doesn’t mean Mad Men’s Betty Draper’s life is boring.
From planning parties to dealing with her husband Don Draper’s infidelity and fraudulent identity, it’s no wonder that this statuesque beauty has spun out of control and struggled with happiness over the seasons.
In this video feature, Jones describes Betty’s journey and how she’s become more mature and stronger throughout the seasons. She also gives us key insights into Betty’s mind and the turning point that made Betty finally up and leave her husband, Don, in a time when it wasn’t so popular to be separated or divorced.
“I think that she went from being very implosive — always burying her emotions and all about the facade of who she is and what the American family is — to someone who’s been through so much emotionally,” Jones says in the feature.
“I don’t know if she’ll ever be truly a nice or more pleasant person, but she’s definitely stronger,” Jones added. “And I respect her more than in the beginning.”
Now in its final season, it’s no doubt that Jones and the rest of the cast will miss being part of the show. When asked what memorabilia she would like to take with her from the set, she told Violet Grey: “My Movado watch if I can, maybe some clothes and table lighters.”
