BEN AFFLECK CAST AS BATMAN IN UPCOMING “MAN OF STEEL” MOVIE
Ben Affleck is getting ready to fill in for Christian Bale as the new DC Comics’ superhero, Batman, in the next Man of Steel sequel.
Filling in Christian Bale’s shoes as the Dark Knight is something Ben Affleck will have to work extra hard to pull off.
It was announced yesterday that in the upcoming “Batman vs. Superman” sequel to Henry Cavill’s “Man of Steel” that Affleck will be the new Caped Crusader. The movie will be directed by Zack Snyder who is convinced that Affleck is the perfect man for the job.
“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman,” added director Snyder. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
Fans reacted strongly to the casting with many not having faith in Affleck’s ability to play the beloved superhero. But Warner Bros. is confident that Affleck is up for the job.
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some” said Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros. earlier today. “His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”
Affleck’s track record in Hollywood has been on the rise due to his successful movies The Town and the recent Oscar award-winning film, Argo, which he directed.
Even so, fans can’t get his portrayal as “Daredevil,” a commercial flop, out of their minds. So, will he deliver?
“We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman,” continued Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution President Sue Kroll. “He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”
The sequel—tentatively titled “Batman vs. Superman” will be written by Snyder and Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer, and is slated to open worldwide on July 17, 2015. Cavill, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and Diane Lane are said to return.
