ROBBIE AMELL TALKS ABOUT THE NEW SUPERNATURAL SHOW “THE TOMORROW PEOPLE”

This new crew of X-Men like “supes” will have you hooked to your TV sets every Wednesday night this fall.

Based on the 1970s British kids’ show of the same name, the newest drama from the CW to hit screens this fall is The Tomorrow People. While at Comic-Con, stars of the show, including Robbie Amell (cousin of Arrow star Stephen Amell), Peyton List (Mad Men) and executive producer Greg Berlanti, talked about what you c an expect from this fresh updated version.

When asked what the reboot has in common with the original show, Berlanti replied, “I think, hopefully, its essence. What attracted me the most to it when I was a kid was the idea that ‘You’re not just different or a freak, you’re actually special.’ These kids are the next step in evolution.”

Berlanti went on to add that the hope is to continue the series with links to the original while still maintaining individuality. “We hope to keep drawing on the original but always kind of make it its own,” he explained.

The Tomorrow People follows the story of a group of genetically mutated young people who represent the next stage in human evolution who possess special powers, including the ability to teleport and communicate with one another telepathically. Together, they work to defeat the forces of evil and keep themselves alive. Facing all these twists and turns, the show plans to keep audiences guessing each week.

“It surprised me,” admitted Amell, the show’s star. “I think it surprises 90 to 100 percent of the people who watch it. Which is nice; you don’t want to see everything that’s coming.”

Berlanti also explained that the first few episodes will be mini-stories highlighting each of the members of “Tomorrow People” and their back stories. “When we meet ‘The Tomorrow People,’ it’s not at the very beginning,” said List. “They clearly have back stories. We’re going to explore all the characters and how they got to where they are in the pilot.”

As for the future of the series, Berlanti wasn’t shy to express his love for the original show. “The real dream would be to get any members of the original cast to do cameos,” he said.

The Tomorrow People will premiere on the CW on October 9 following Arrow.
