OSCARS 2013: THE 85TH ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS NOMINATIONS
It’s that time of year when awards season is in full swing and this year Lincoln leads the pack with 12 Oscar nominations.
Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone gave what was one of the most entertaining presentations as they read the awards at 5 a.m, L.A. time and for the most part, most of the contenders were predictable.
The notable snubs were Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director, although their films Argo and Zero Dark Thirty did get Best Picture nods. Another surprise, or what pundits were including as a strong possibility, was the nomination for Quvenzhané Wallis star of Beasts of the Southern Wild for Best Actress. At nine years old, she’s the youngest person to be nominated for an Oscar. As well, at 85, Emmanuel Riva who stars in Emmanuel Riva - Amour, is the oldest ever to be nominated.
It’s also interesting to see the entire leading and supporting cast of Silver Linings Playbook get nominated including Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln leads the awards with 12 nominations.
