Lady Gaga sends mixed messages to fans with her fast weight loss and with her very green weed Halloween costume.
RANT—Let me start off by saying that I really like Lady Gaga. I think she’s a talented singer and songwriter and an amazing performer. But when news broke a few months past (I use the term “news” lightly) that she had gained weight, in part by being in a happy relationship with Chicago Fire’s Taylor Kinney, plus eating a regular diet of Italian food at her dad’s New York restaurant, she seemed to pass the test by standing up to those in the media who publicized her weight gain, calling her fat.
She put out a statement to her “Little Monsters” that it’s O.K. to be who you are [insert, Born This Way anthem here] and that she wasn’t concerned with her 25-pound weight gain. But upon looking at the photos of Gaga in her so-called weight-gain state, there really wasn’t much of a difference. She didn’t look fat. She looked great, but perhaps a little fuller with some normal meat on her bones—the kind of meat that actually belongs there.
So my question is, why the urge to lose this so-called weight so fast and publicize it? “I’m dieting right now, because I gained, like, 25 pounds,” she told radio host Elvis Duran. “And you know I really don’t feel bad about it, not even for a second.” (Huh?)
“I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It’s hard because it’s a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don’t like that. So I’m trying to find a new balance.”
Well, O.K. But even her boyfriend liked her the way she was. In a recent Little Monsters newsletter, Gaga also said that her boyfriend, Kinney, 31, “prefers me curvier. When I eat and am healthy and not so worried about my looks, I’m happy. Happier than I’ve ever been. I am not going to go on a psycho-spree because of scrutiny.”
“Join A BODY REVOLUTION,” she said on her site while posting this revealing underwear shot. “Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15.”She also another lingerie shot of herself. “To inspire Bravery. and BREED some m$therf*cking COMPASSION.”If that’s what 25-pounds overweight looks like, please sign me up.
I guess the point of this rant is that even Lady Gaga is at times not happy with her looks despite what she preaches to her “Little Monsters.” Don’t preach that you’re O.K. with your weight gain, only to turn around and advertise that you’re fighting hard to lose it because the media called you on it. She’s a powerful woman with over 30 million twitter followers, so I guess I expected more from Gaga than to send this mixed message.
To celebrate her on-going weight loss further, Gaga recently posted a photo of her lean shape on her Little Monsters website in her revealing Halloween costume. “I was weed for Halloween,” Gaga tweeted on Nov. 1. “Best costume ever! It’s so fun. Princess High the Cannabis Queen.”
Remember how many young tween girls posted “Born This Way” cover tunes on Youtube? About a bazillion. Now how will she explain that to her young followers? Geesh.
