CHANNEL KEIRA KNIGHTLEY’S STYLE FROM HER UPCOMING MOVIE ‘ANNA KARENINA’
Banana Republic’s fall capsule collection channels the classic character, Anna Karenina, in the upcoming movie of the same name starring the queen of period dramas Keira Knightley.
This coming October, Banana Republic is releasing a capsule collection inspired by the classic character Anna Karenina. The collection is to be released before the debut of the highly anticipated movie, Anna Karenina, which is based on the novel by Russian author Leo Tolstoy, starring Keira Knightley.
Anna Karenina’s high-class style is perceived as feminine, polished, elegant and graceful. Karenina’s romantic style, and willingness to embellish when appropriate, created a certain aura and style for the wealthy women of the 19th century.

Although the novel was the inspiration, the real magic came when the movie’s costume designer, Oscar-winning designer Jacqueline Durran (Pride & Prejudce, Atonement), was able to transform the written pages into clothing that brings to life the intricate and chic fashions of the 1800’s.
“With Jacqueline’s clear expertise and extensive knowledge of the era, it was a dream to have her as part of the styling and editing process, which allowed us to curate a capsule that embodies the film’s mood,” said Simon Kneen, Banana Republic Creative Director and Executive Vice President of Design. “Working with Jacqueline has been an incredible experience. Her understanding and passion for the project added a genuine dimension to the capsule.”
The Banana Republic Anna Karenina capsule holiday collection (out this October) will consist of modernized pieces for both men and women will include statement accessories, luxe fabrics, well-tailored pieces, details of faux fur, lace and velvet. The pieces chosen for the capsule collection are picked by Durran herself, allowing these limited edition pieces to be classic staples for anyone’s closet.
“Working with Banana Republic and Simon to curate and style a capsule collection inspired by looks from Anna Karenina was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Durran.
Anna Karenina—also starring Jude Law and Aaron Johnson—will have its premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and will open wide on November 16 in conjunction with the Banana Republic collection.
We can’t wait to see the film, and to get our hands on the collection.
