The stakes are definitely getting higher in Bon Temps with Russell Edgington on the loose, and those pesky faeries.

True Blood Season 5, Episode 6, “Hopeless”—OK, in this episode, things definitely picked up. Inside the abandoned asylum, wolves emerge and one, J.D., pulls Alcide from the room. Left alone with Sookie, Russell attacks her, but she slams some of that faerie lightening power which knocks him back. When Eric prepares to stake the weakened Russell, Bill stops him from doing so. “He dies, we die,” Bill says but just at that moment Kibwe arrives and takes Russell into Authority custody. Little does Bill know is that Eric was probably right in wanting to kill Russell. Although, we still don’t know what his plan is, if Russell was to be killed at the halfway mark, there would be no storyline left.

Alcide stands over the bodies of two wolves that were helping Russell, but notices that JD, Marcus’ dad, now in human form has escaped. Kibwe angry that humans were involved forces Bill to glamour Sookie and Eric to glamour Alcide. Eric instructs Alcide to forget what happened, and to be repulsed by her. Pretending to glamour Sookie, Bill wishes her the life that she’s meant to live: “in the sun” with other humans. You couldn’t help but notice a romantic and touching moment between them, which makes me realize how much I miss a love story this season.

Although Alcide wakes up in Sookie’s girly bed remembering nothing about the night before, but only that him and Sookie may have got it on, Sookie revives his memory about the V-addicted wolves working for Russell. Mad, Alcide decides to visit his pack and claim himself as alpha male, against JD, with the hottie Rikki, seconding the motion.

Ever wonder why Jason doesn’t have any faerie dust running through his blood? He may not be a “sup” but something is definitely going on with him. Still obsessing and dreaming about his parents, Jason swears he will find the vampires that killed them. He tells Sookie that he’s seen their cousin, Hadley, at a secretly hidden faerie club and that she told him that it was not a flash flood that killed their parents but a vampire. Sookie, suspicious of the faeries, asks Jason to take her there.

At the nightclub, Sookie finds Hadley and warns her that the faeries are not what they seem. Anxious to learn about her parents, Sookie questions Hadley and Claude. She finds out her parents were ambushed by a vampire who smelled her faerie blood on a Band-Aid. Angry, Sookie lashes out by using her lightening hands but in turn is targeted by all the faeries, which turned out to be quite the light show! Lately, fast-fingers Sookie has been firing those lightening bolts every chance she can get and one can’t help but wonder, are these powers everlasting?

Back at Authority Bill and Eric are hailed as heroes but the weird religious stuff soon took over. At Russell’s execution, just when Roman hits the button to set off the iStake attached to Russell, it fails. Russell then turns on Roman and stakes him in the heart killing him. The episode ends with Salome releasing a little blood tear. Was it her all along?

Overall, it was an exciting episode that finally pushed the storyline ahead. But with another six more episodes to go, let’s hope we get to see more action with Eric and Alcide’s abs at the center of it all.

True Blood airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO and HBO Canada.
