And… it’s on to “the next” for best-selling author Stephenie Meyer as she leaves Twilight behind to grow her next big movie adaptation based on her other book, The Host. Of course, there will be more supernatural characters but this time Meyer’s story will focus on aliens. Stars Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons will lead the new teen drama and will no doubt shoot to international fame once the movie is released next year.

Ronan, who has made her mark in the acting world appearing in The Lovely Bones, Atonement and Hannah, will play the lead role of Melanie Stryder. “The story is still set in our world but it’s a perfected version of our world, which I think is good becuase it means we’re not going to be completely detached from it,” she told SFX magazine. “I think that’s why it might be a bit more touching because it is actually our world.”

In The Host the human world has been invaded by an unseen alien enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. And while most of humanity has succumbed, Melanie Stryder (Ronan) has eluded caption. But as one of the last human beings who fight against the harmful aliens called Souls, Melanie is inevitably captured by a Soul called Wanderer, something of a legend because of all of the “hosts” she has attached to on numerous planets.

Trying to get Melanie to give up the remaining pockets of humans, the alien instead finds her to be unique. Wanderer is so overwhelmed by Melanie’s memories and feelings that the alien is driven to reconnect with Melanie’s old life and her love Jared, played by Max Irons (Red Riding Hood).

Filming has begun on The Host in Louisiana and the cast and crew will continue filming in New Mexico in April. The Host iis set to hit theatres in March 2013 and also stars Diane Kruger.
